End of Season

We would like Bella Vista residents with bluebird boxes in their yard to let us know the number of bluebird nestlings that have successfully fledged this year.

Please send us your results by emailing bellavistabluebird@gmail.com.

The bluebirds will not be making any new nests this year, but if you have eggs that are due to hatch and/or nestlings that have not yet fledged, please wait to send your results until your birds are all finished.

Thank you for helping the bluebirds.

It's almost time!

It's getting close to bluebirds starting to build their nests. Get your boxes ready by cleaning out any old nests or debris. Check that your post is secure and the box is out of prevailing winds. Also make sure you have some type of predator protection. See the Bluebird Factsheet, Predator Control, under About Bluebirds, or contact us for more information at bellavistabluebird@gmail.com.

Fledgling Count

The Bella Vista Bluebird Society would like residents with bluebird boxes in their yards to let us know the number of bluebird nestlings that successfully fledged from your boxes this year.

We like to keep track of Bella Vista’s bluebirds and we’ll report our findings in local publications and on our website.  Last year 510 neighborhood bluebird fledglings were reported. Combined with the society's nest boxes we had 2,153 new bluebirds!

You can send your results by email to bellavistabluebird@gmail.com, or by calling or texting 847-951-1743.

Thank you for helping the bluebirds.

Time to Check Your Nest Boxes

Nesting season is almost here, so now is a good time to check your nest boxes to make sure they are cleaned out and remove any paper wasps' nests you find.

The BVBBS usually starts monitoring boxes in mid-March. For tips on monitoring, go to Monitoring Your Home Bluebird Nest Box.

See Eggs, Chicks, Birds for information on the timing of bluebird eggs, bluebird chicks, and the birds that use bluebird nest boxes.

Contact us any time with questions at bellavistabluebird@gmail.com or call/text Laura at 847-951-1743.

2022 Statistics

The count for this season's bluebirds have been compiled and can be viewed on our BVBBS Statistics page.  The overall count for Eastern Bluebirds fledged from all sources this nesting season is 2,153.

The BVBBS currently moniters & maintains 581 bluebird nest boxes around Bella Vista.  Since 1980, when we were founded, we have helped fledge a cumulative total of 53,140 bluebirds.

Fledgling Count

The bluebird nesting season is at or near the end of this year's nesting season. We would like Bella Vista residents with bluebird boxes in their yard to let us know the number of bluebird chicks that have successfully fledged this year.

You can send me your results either by sending an email to bellavistabluebird@gmail.com, or by calling/texting 847-951-1743.

The bluebirds will not be making any new nests this year, but if you have eggs that are due to hatch and/or chicks that have not yet fledged, please wait to send your results until your birds are all finished.

We’ll report our findings in The Weekly Vista, on our Facebook site, and on our website - BVBBS Statistics.

Thanks!

Nesting Season Has Begun

The usual clutch size for Eastern Bluebirds is 3-5 eggs, occasionally you might see 6 eggs.  And although the eggs are usually blue, sometimes a female will lay white eggs, like the ones shown below in the photo by Bet Zimmerman.
