Feeding Bluebirds

Some say offering food to bluebirds could make the difference between them surviving long, harsh winter temperatures.

We have information on both mealworms (available locally at The Bluebird Shed and Orscheln), and bluebird pudding that you can make, on our FAQ page (see Feeding Bluebirds)

If you google bluebird pudding you'll find scads of recipes.  They also eat suet.

Thank you for helping the bluebirds

AmazonSmile

When doing your holiday shopping online, consider using AmazonSmile every time you order something from Amazon.  By doing that, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchases, at no cost to you, to a charity of your choice.  And, you can now make the Bella Vista Bluebird Society your charity of choice.

Go to AmazonSmile on our website, and click on the box which will automatically take you to  smile.amazon.com.

Thank you in advance for your generousity.  We will put those funds to good use making nest boxes to protect our local bluebirds, and/or helping us fund our new grant program.

2021 Fledgling Results

The count for this season's bluebirds have been compiled and can be viewed on our BVBBS Statistics page.  The overall count for Eastern Bluebirds fledged from all sources this nesting season is 2,154.

The BVBBS currently moniters & maintains 582 bluebird nest boxes around Bella Vista.  Since 1980, when we were founded, we have helped fledge a cumulative total of 51,497 bluebirds.

Please Send Us Your Results

The bluebird nesting season is finished for this year, and the Bella Vista Bluebird Society would like your backyard count for bluebird chicks that have successfully fledged (left the nest) this year.

We like to keep track of Bella Vista’s bluebirds and we’ll report our findings in The Weekly Vista, on the BVBBS Facebook page and on our website - BVBBS Stats.

You can send your results either by email to bellavistabluebird@gmail.com, or by calling/texting Laura at 847-951-1743.  We’ll reply to let you know we’ve received them.  Thanks!

Nesting Season Underway

The usual clutch size for Eastern Bluebirds is 3-5 eggs, occasionally you might see 6 eggs.

Nesting Season

The nesting season will be here soon. You might want to check your nest boxes in early March to make sure they are cleaned out and remove any paper wasps' nests you find.

The BVBBS usually starts monitoring boxes in mid-March. For tips on monitoring, go to Monitoring Your Home Bluebird Nest Box.

See Eggs, Chicks, Birds for information on the timing of bluebird eggs, bluebird chicks, and the birds that use bluebird nest boxes.

Contact us any time with questions at bellavistabluebird@gmail.com or call/text Laura at 847-951-1743.

Happy Holidays

Thank you to everyone who supported the BVBBS this year.  Please stay safe & healthy during the holidays.  I look forward to March 2021 when we can start all over again. - Laura
