Send Us Your Results

The bluebird nesting season for this year is almost over, and the Bella Vista Bluebird Society would like your backyard count for bluebird chicks that have successfully fledged (left the nest) this year.

We like to keep track of Bella Vista’s bluebirds and we’ll report our findings in local publications and on our website.

You can send your results either by email to bellavistabluebird@gmail.com, or by calling/texting Laura at 847-951-1743.  We’ll reply to let you know we’ve received them.  Thanks!

Backyard Bird Count

With all the birds migrating through Bella Vista at this time of year, it was fun watching our feeders last weekend as we recorded what we were seeing for Bella Vista's own backyard bird count.  The bird count here happens every month and you can join.

Butch, at The Bluebird Shed, started, and continues to coordinate and tally our data each month.  If you'd like to participate, and find out why we count birds, go to The Bluebird Shed's website - Bella Vista Backyard Bird Count.

Photo Contest

To celebrate our 40th anniversary, we are having a photo contest!

See the contest rules which includes a PDF form to download, fill out (click on the fountain pen icon to fill in the blanks), and submit with your photos.

Happy Holidays!

It has been a very good year for bluebirds in Bella Vista because of the work we do as a community to increase & protect our native birds.

Our stats show that we fledged 209 more bluebirds this year, and now have 580 nest boxes around Bella Vista that have all been mapped.  (Be sure to check out our beautiful new map.)

Earlier this year we had logo t-shirts made, that you can buy to support our activities, and the same logo is now appearing on all of the new boxes.

We also launched The Bluebirder, a newsletter where you can read about birds and what we do. The latest fall/winter issue is now available.

And we are excited about the research project that has started using our boxes.  You can read more about at the link and also in the fall/winter issue of The Bluebirder.

We hope you have a safe & happy holiday season, and continue to support the bluebird society in the new year.

Clean Out Old Nests

Please make sure to clean out any nests you may have left in your nest boxes.  Birds will sometimes use empty boxes in the winter to escape from cold winds.  Thank you.
