Monitor Data Sheet
To help BVBBS monitors, we have provided blank data sheets, in both portrait or landscape, to use in the field; and a sample data sheet to refer to when filling in your personalized sheet in Google Sheets.
1) The intent of the monitor data sheet is to have:
- consistent abbreviations from all monitors, so that
- each box can be evaluated efficiently, and
- total yearly box activity can be easily determined and compared with previous years, and
- we can accurately report our collective data to Cornell's NestWatch.
2) Filling in monitoring data:
- While monitoring, use the portrait or landscape sheet in the field to record your data. These forms have adequate room to make entries into the cells.
- After gathering your field data, transfer it to your personalized data sheet in Google Sheets. Refer to the sample above for help*.
- Or, using the Google Sheet app, you can record you field data at your trail using your phone.
3) Each cell on your personalized data sheet should contain only the standardized abbreviations shown at the bottom of the data sheet:
- For instance, 1E in blue, identifies it as a bluebird. (Do not also use BB for bluebird in the cell.)
- When more than 2 digits are required, such as 3 eggs + 2 chicks, do not use commas or spaces, just 3E2C.
